Jillian D'Alessio

Jillian D'Alessio, Academic Advisor

Jillian is an academic advisor in the Liberal Studies and Interdisciplinary Studies Department. Her professional advising interests include assisting non-traditional students and at-risk populations to find their dream and make a lasting impact on society.

Prior to advising here at FIU, Jillian was living in Hawai'i teaching for the ʻĀINA In Schools program, a farm-to-school initiative promoting agricultural literacy and empowering children to make healthy food choices that will last a lifetime.

Jillian also has 4 years of teaching experience at both the secondary and post-secondary level. She has taught Biomedical Ethics, Logic, Medical Sociology, Death and Dying, and Women's Studies as well as intro courses for both philosophy and sociology.

Jillian earned a B.A. in philosophy here at FIU followed by a 4+1 Masters of Arts in Liberal Studies. Her graduate coursework enabled her to see the interconnectedness of all areas of academia and understand the urgency of cross-disciplinary dialogue in our globalized world.

Her favorite hobby is traveling with her nine-year-old son, Sebastian. They have already visited 10 countries together, mainly in the developing world. She is raising her son to really embody what it means to be 'Worlds Ahead'.

Gisela Cabrera

Gisela Cabrera, Senior Academic Advisor

Originally from Cuba, Gisela became a Miami resident in 1973 after living in Puerto Rico for many years. Her employment experience includes working in the radio business and other educational institutions. She came to FIU in 1992 where she worked in both campus life, and admissions/registration. After earning a B.A. in Psychology at FIU, she began her academic advising career at the College of Arts, Sciences & Education's Center for Academic Services in 2007. In addition to her current student case load for Liberal Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies, and Women’s & Gender Studies, Gisela focuses in helping transient students as well as posting the foreign language requirement for the College.


Ivana Aronovski

Ivana Aronovski, Academic Advisor

Ivana is an alum, having received both a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Master's in Higher Education Administration from FIU. She is full of panther pride and “bleeds gold and blue”. Having experience as both a student and academic advisor, Ivana can attest to FIU’s unparalleled devotion to the pursuit of discovery and its application in the student’s personal growth. She enjoys collaborating with students as they develop and pursue their educational, personal and career goals and understands the importance of her role in their acclimation to the university, its resources and culture. She presently works within the College of Arts, Sciences and Education, advising students on a variety of programs, including those that are fully online. When not working, she enjoys water activities, watching TV and playing with her kids.
